Welcome to Cards by Amy K.

I am SO GLAD you stopped by to check out my blog!!! Here I will be posting my current projects for you to see. PLEASE feel free to leave me a comment. I would LOVE to hear what you think about what I'm working on. I have been a scrapbooker/paper crafter since I first caught wind of this wonderful hobby in 2006. I am lucky enough to get to spend my days doing something I love so much and which brings so much joy into my life. I first started scrapbooking as a way to pass the time as I found myself at home alone all day suddenly, now I can't imagine life without it. Too bad I don't get paid for it, then I really would have it all!!!

Shabby Chic Birthday card

This is a birthday card I made for my aunt, Shelia.  I've really been into the whole shabby chic movement in crafting lately and wanted a card that reflected that style.I've forgotten the paper pad that I used sense I made this card over a month ago.  Please forgive me. I die cut the burlap using the tattered flourals die from Tim Holtz.  A word of caution when doing this, if you use the loose weave burlap like I did you have to be careful that It doesn't come unraveled on you.  I used a large flowral pebble with the image of the lady glossy accented to the back.  For the sentiment I used a stamp set from Close to My Heart and the matching die cut from the Art Philosophy cartridge for the cricut. That cartridge was made for Close to My Heart to work with their stamps.  I just love using it, It has so many good cuts on it.  Ok, that's it for this card.  If you have any questions or comments please feel free to ask.  I love hearing from you guys.  Talk to you next time. Hugs

Masculine Birthday card

I made this card for my cousins husband, Jeff. He's a rugged kind of guy and likes big trucks and going hunting.  Maybe I should have made his card in Mossy Oak camo, now that I think about it. lol.  I wanted a real masculine card for him. No flowers on this card lol.  I used the Graphic 45 designer paper, a Proper Gentleman for his card.  The stamp set is from Papertry Ink and the name escapes me.  I embossed it with champagne colored embossing powder even tho it looks more silver here. I didn't have to do much to this card I think the paper stands for it's self in this case.  Thanks for stopping by and checking out my card, make sure to check back later today and tomorrow, I've got a ton of cards to upload including some Christmas ones.  Hope to see you back here soon. Hugs

Masculine Birthday card for young man

I made this card for my cousin's other boy/child, Garrison.  He's almost a teenager and enjoys all the things that boys his age do.  I thought the four wheeler was a good fit for him.  Didn't want to put anything too childish on the card for him. No cutsie cards for him from now on. lol.the designer paper is from a Recollections pad and  the die cut is from the Dude! cricut lite cartridge and I think the letters may be from the Wild Card cartridge, the sentiment stamp is from Close to my Heart on a chipboard cut out. Hope you enjoyed the card today and hope you have a great day, Hugs.

Happy World Card Making Day!

I have a new card for you today in Honor of World Card Making Day 2012.

This card was a birthday card for my Father in law, Dale.  I really love the rich color of this card.  I used a designer paper pad from Recollections and for the layered die cut in the back I used the Artiste cartridge from Close to My Heart for the cricut using the designer paper and bazzill card stock.  I used the styled labels die from Sizzix for the sentiment die cut. I cut that out from a piece of recycled packaging from a Tim Holtz product.  The Father die cut was made using the Teresa Collins cricut cartridge, Sophisticated.  I cut that out with bazzill card stock and white cover stock from Ga pacific. The seam binding is some Hug Snug white and I used Juniper glimmer mist to color it.  I just love the colors of this card.  I hope Dale likes it and I hope you do too.  I'll be back tomorrow with another card.  I hope you enjoy the rest of World Card Making day today.  Go and  make something crafty! A really femine, shabby chic birthday card

I made this card for a special lady who just happens to be a wonderful aunt of mine too. Aunt Naomi.  She is such a  sweet lady and has always reached out to help others when ever she sees they are in need.  She never has to be asked to pitch in when she is needed she just always seems to sense that she is needed and just jumps right in doing whatever she can to be of help.  I know I am not alone in saying that I am ever so grateful for all the help she gave to my Grandfather after my Granny died.  Naomi and her husband, Tim, live right across the street from my grandparents home and it was so helpful to all the rest of the family to have her there so conveniently to help him out with any book keeping or paper work or Dr's appointments and medications that he needed help with.  She provided a priceless amount of service to him and in turn all the rest of us the rest of the family.  That's not to say that Tim didn't help out too because he did his fair share too but Naomi seemed to always know what was going on in the household and could usually answer any questions we had or at least help us out in finding the info we needed.
I made this card using design paper from Close to my Heart, a journaling tag from K and co., a spellbinders doily die cut and a die cut from the art philosophy cartridge for the cricut.  The sentiment stamp is from Hot off the Press, I hand died the seam binding with the vintage photo distress stain from ranger, bling from recollections and vintage buttons.  Thanks for stopping by today and checking out my card, be sure and come back tomorrow and I will have a different kind of project for you. hugs

I hope your weekend is going great, enjoying a little bit of the cooler weather even if its raining off and on.  We are just having a laid back day around here today. Hope you enjoyed the card and remember that I'm always open for request and if you are stumped with a crafty project you are working on feel free to ask; I'd love to try and help out. I'll be back tomorrow with another card. c u then. hugs

A Birthday card for Nannie

This card was specially made for my husband's grandmother.  We all know her simply as Nannie.  She is so special to so many people.  We all really just love her to death. I can't believe this is her 88th birthday, she's so spry and just gets around so well.  She's maintained her home all these years with just a little help from family and home health care, overall I think she's doing really good.  I put this simple little card together with some design papers from Basic Grey, flower die cut from Sizzix, a little glimmer spray, (some of them made by me),  and a punch for the sentiment from McGill.  Thank you for stopping by the blog today, I hope you all have a wonderful, sunny weekend. and I will see you back tomorrow with another card.  Hugs

A Birthday card for a good friend

I made this card for my good friend, Sara.  She is my oldest friend in the world and I always try and remember her birthday.  I want her to always know how special she has been to me over all these years that we've known each other and still is to this day.

To make this card I used design paper from Prima, " the almanac collection". I added some vintage buttons from my stash and the orange flower is prima as well with some glimmer mist added for the color.  The sentiment is punch from McGill and the stamp is from Hot off the Press stamped in chalk ink from Powder puff. Okay, that's it for this post. I know I promised it to you yesterday but, Hey, better late than never, Right? lol. Thanks for stopping by to check out my card, I hope you all have a wonderful Labor Day weekend. C U back here in a couple of days with another card, or maybe a layout or two?  Would you like to see more layouts from me? Or what about some altered projects?  I would be happy to do more of any of those things so leave me a comment and let me know what you would like to see more of.  It doesn't have to be all cards all of the time, ya know?  Also If you have any special request feel free to leave them in the comments too and I will see if I can help you out.  Maybe you would like to see a certain technique done and explained or maybe you need help with your Cricut or Gypsy machines.  It never hurts to ask, and you never know, I may just be able to help you out.  Have a wonderful Friday evening, Hugz, amyk

Happy Birthday card for Penelope's 2nd Birthday

This year for Penelope's 2nd birthday I wanted to make a real cute card so I turned to my Create a Critter cartridge for the cricut.  All the cuts on this card came from that cartridge.  I used design paper from DCWV, "the sweet stack", and the card stock is from Bazzill Basics paper co.  I added a little glitter glue from Martha Stewart for a finishing touch.
This is a shot of the envelope.  I don't ever really decorate the envelopes because of them having to go thru the mail and possibly getting destroyed but I had just gotten this washi tape and it matched the paper line so good that I had to add it to the envelope.  I think it's just so cute!  This card was going to be hand delivered at the birthday party so I knew that It wouldn't be damaged by the mail.
Ok, that's all I've got for you today, thanks for stopping by, be sure to leave me a comment and let me know what you think of my card creations.  I love to hear from you all.  See you again tomorrow with another card.  Hugs,

Birthday card for my SIL, Mel

Mel is not only a great Sister In Law but she is also a great friend.  I just love her to death and she is such a joy to be around.  She has this kind of upbeat spirit about her that just lifts you up.
I wanted to make her a special card so I broke out my favorite paper line, MME, "Union Square" stack.  I used the Tim Holtz Tattered flourals die to make all the distressed flowers and the black card stock is from Hobby Lobby, the ribbon is from CTMH, the punch is from Mcgill and the sentiment stamp is from Hot off the press.  I used inks from ranger in walnut stain and from Powder Puff chalk inks in marashino cherry.  That does it for this post. Thanks for stopping by to check out my card. Hugs, amy k

Masculine Birthday card for my Grandfather

Is it just me are aren't Grandparents the most special people in the world.  This Grandpa that I made this birthday card is my last remaining living grandparent and i just love him to death.  His health is failing tho and i don't even know if he got to see this card I left there for him.  Bless his heart I want to keep him around for as long as possible but that is for my own selfish reasons.  I don't want to prolong his pain and suffering any longer than need be.  I know God will call him home when his time here is done.  We just try and spend as much time as possible with him now while he can still sit up and talk to us.

To make this card I believe i used a paper stack from Recollections and some spellbinders dies.  The stamp on the outside cover is from Hot off the press and the sentiments stamp on the inside is from Hero Arts. I know there's not alot to this card but I try to keep my masculine cards fairly simple.  I hope you enjoyed it and I'll be back soon with another card. Untill next time. keep on keeping it real. hugz, amy k

A birthday card for my Bestie, Wendy

I made this birthday card for my best friend, Wendy.  She is one of those people who are just a joy to be around.  She is so real and down to earth and easy to talk to.  I just love her to death.  She has brought so much happiness and joy to my life.  I could never thank her enough for all that she has given to me.  I just try to be a good friend back to her.  I think this card turned out beautiful and is a reflection of her and not just just her outer beauty but her inner beauty as well.  I hope she likes this card as much as I do.
To make this card I used designer paper from DCWV, the Mariposa stack, the flower and the black bling swirl is from Prima, The die cuts for the sentiment are from the cricut craft room, a cartridge called "Cricut craft room basics" I've got it on my gypsy.  the sentiment stamp is from Hot off the Press a set called "Birthday Greetings". That's all for this card, I hope you enjoyed it.  Have a great day and I'll be back soon with another card. Hugz

I made this card using design paper from s.e.i. called "couture" and the Kate's ABC'S cricut cartridge.  I designed it all on my gypsy for the cricut and putting it together was a snap. I used the design papers to paper piece her out fit and I think she turned out so cute.  Hope you enjoy! Birthday card for Mother in law

I made this card for my Lovely Mother in law, Judy.  She's just the sweetest lady in the world and she has so much love to give.  She and I didn't always see eye to eye but all that is behind us now and we have found that we actually like/love each other very much.  I can turn to her for anything and I know that she will be there ready and willing to do whatever is within her power to help me out.  She is one of the people I keep near and dear to my heart.
To make this card I started off  with designer paper from My mind's Eye, " lost and found" paper stack.  I layered the background pieces and distresses all the edges with worn lipstick distress ink from Ranger. For the die cut circle piece I used Die-namics "dizzy doily" die. The punch used for the sentiment piece is from ek Success. I also used a stamp from studio g in maraschino cherry by powder puff chalk inks. The flowers I used are from Wild Orchid Crafts, its the foundations puffy white daisy blooms and I colored them using glimmer mist in black cherry, electric blue, and juniper.  I used a Prima flower center for the flowers. To finish the card off I added a piece of vintage lace to the bottom and some Martha Stewart seam binding in pink.
That's all for this post. thanks for stopping by today. I've got more cards to come in the next few days to keep an eye out.  Talk to you again soon. Hugs, Amyk

Father's day card for Frank

I made this father's day card for my wonderful fil, Frank.  He's the best step father in law in the world. :)  He's so good to all of us and he just brings us all together in such a loving way.  I've said it before but I'm still just as happy as can be that Judy picked him to be our step dad. This card is made on a Kraft base embossed with the Argyle embossing folder by Cuttlebug.  I went over the embossing with a blue distress ink from Ranger. The designer paper is from Recollections, it's from the Mosaic Memories paper stack.  I mounted the designer paper on a piece of brown bazzill bling card stock.  The sentiment is stamped with versa mark then embossed with chestnut embossing powder from American crafts on labels 9 from Spellbinders.  The sentiment stamp is from inkadinkado.  I used a bow made of Martha Stewart seam binding.  That's all for the Father's day cards, thank you for stopping by and checking out the blog today.

Happy Father's Day card for Father in law

This is the card I made for my wonderful Father in law, Dale.  He's been so good to my husband and I over the past 12 years that we've been together.  He's helped us out in many ways over the years.  He even took us on a cruise vacation for a week during Jan. in 2010.  I made this card with my cricut mini and the gypsy handheld designing device. I used a label die cut from the Sentimentals cartridge and made it into the card base by welding to of the die cuts together with the gypsy.  I honestly don't know how I ever got by before I had the gypsy.  I use it for every single cut I make.  I have my Mother in law, Judy to thank for the cricut Mini.  She and Frank got it for me for Christmas last year.  They are really good to me too.  I am very lucky with the in laws that I have.  They, all three of them, love me and treat me like one of their own,  I love them all dearly. I used the Styled Labels die cut for the sentiment. and a stamp from TPC studios in Maraschino cherry ink from powder puff chalk inks.  I also used some of the gears from Tim Holtz adhered with some glossy accents. (It makes the best glue). and some mini roses from Wild Orchid Crafts. I also used some Glimmer mist in Candy apple red to color the base of the card.  I used bakers twine from We r memory keepers.

For the inside I used paper from Recollections from the Regent Street paper pad.  For the card base I used the Shadow feature for the pieces I welded together and the regular die cut for the pieces cut from designer paper.  for the sentiment on the inside I just made the die cut a little smaller than the original card base die cut.  That's all I've got for now, I'll be back a little later for the Father's day card I made for Frank.  See you soon;)

"Forever" Anniversary Card

Judy and Frank Owens are two very special people to me.  Judy is my mother in law and we were all happy when she and Frank decided to get married in 2006 and add Frank to our very loving family.  Frank fits right in.  He brings alot of love and understanding to the family and Judy, well she's just beautiful inside and out.  She's very good to me and they love me and that goes along way.  They treat me like they love me.  I have other family members of my own who don't even do that, go figure.  So I always try and remember their anniversary and send them a card.  This is the one that I sent this year.
I made this card using an older paper stack from K & Co, (I'm working on using up the paper that I have instead of constantly buying more and never using it even half way up).  I think this was the wedding stack.  The rosette flower is a die cut from sizzix for Tim Holtz.  I added a glittered flower to the center from the collection along with the three little flowers at the top.  The sentiment stamp is from Hero Arts and I used some distress ink from Ranger to distress it a bit.  The dollie is a die cut from Cheery Lynn designs and I cut it from a piece of the the paper collection, this is a wonderful die by the way.   It's very intricut.  Then I stamped the Forevever boarder across the bottom and I don't have the information on that stamp any longer, sorry.  Well, that's all for this card, thank you for stopping by to have a look.  Dont forget to "Like" or leave a comment. They mean so much to me.  Till next time; God bless.

Thank you Tag

I made this tag back in April or May as a thank you to my Mom for the time she spent helping me out after my sugery.  It was simple to make and I got to use my new distress stains and then I wrote her a thank you note on the back.  the script paper is from Hobby Lobby, the stamps are from Hot off the press and I used my Prisma color pencils and copic markers to color in the stamped images, the white felt rolled flower is a Sizzix die and the pink rolled flower is made with Bazzill card stock and cut from the Art Philosophy cartridge for the cricut. the top note and oval shape are a punch from McGill. for the pink on the top note shape and the lacy martha stewart punch are colored with the spun sugar distress stain from ranger.  I added lots of colorful fibers to the top.  I also wanted to mention that I used the cricut to cut out the tag shape from thin chipboard and then again from the paper and then adhered them together.  Thanks for stopping by and taking a look at my project. Feel free to leave me a comment. Hugs, amy K

Get Well card for Brother

About a month back my Brother, Derek, had to have surgery on his sinus's.  It was clearly a painful experience and I felt so bad for him that I wanted to do something for him.  Making him a card probably didn't make the pain go away but hopefully it brightened his day for a moment anyway.;)
Making this card was simple.  I used an older paper line, but one I still love, called Lime Ricky from Basic Grey.  The paper collection came with a sticker sheet and I used that for most of the elements on this card.  I've tried and tried to remember what I used for the sentiment but this old brain has had it and for the life of me I just cant remember.  I'm sure it's letter stickers from somewhere. lol. Then, to finish it off I tied a length of seam binding around the top.  Simple yet cute.

For the inside I used a piece of paper from the collection and a sentiment stamp from Hero Arts.  I then took some red, yellow and blue glimmer mist and instead of spraying it onto the card, I took the sprayer out of the bottle and used what glimmer mist was on it and flicked it onto the paper.  It added a pop of color that was something that I was still able to write over to sign the card.   Well, that's all I've got for now.  I'll be back with another post either later today or in the morning.  Hope you all are having a great day and staying cool in this heat. Hugs, Amy K.

Thank you card for my Bestie, Wendy

I made this Thank You card for my good friend, Wendy.  She's stays very busy looking after a family of four children at times and a hubby to be all the time.  Like any mother, wife she runs the house and oversees everything,  You and I know how tiresome that can be.  I know It exhausts me some days and I don't even have children. lol.  Well Wendy was one of the people who came and stayed with me at the hospital while I was having my surgery.  Her, my Mom, and Brian.  They just took shifts so that I never had to be alone for long. I want to thank Wendy especially because at the time I had my surgery her mom was also recovering from a surgery and Wendy found time to balance us both. She's a great friend and I love her dearly.
So for this card I used design paper from CTMH, the "Roxie" collection.  The card stock in cream and black are from Wal Mart.  I make all my card bases out of their card stock. The die cuts were as follows: the round plaid die cut and the label are from Spellbinders and the leaf flourish was from Cheery Lynn Designs, its called "Fanciful Flourish" and is one of their number one best sellers right now.  If you haven't yet  tried out CLD's dies then you should run over there and grab you up some because these dies are awesome and made here in the USA. I also used pink dew drops from Recollections and the sentiment stamp is from Studio G. I stamped it with ink from Powder Puff chalk inks in "Amaretto".
For the inside I used the flower stamp that was from the Studio G sentiment set. I stamped it with the powder puff chalk inks in "mocha mama".  I colored the flower in with my Copic Markers. I used R20, R22, YG06, and YG03.  The sentiment on the inside is from Hero arts. A set called "Thank you for being my friend". I stamped it also with the powder puff chalk inks in "Maraschino Cherry". The bling is by Recollections.

Well, that's all I've got for today see  you back here tomorrow with a get well card.  Have a great day!

Happy Anniviersary card to my Sweetie

My Hubby and I have been married 11 years this year and I am very late with this post because the anniversary was April 21.  I do have a good reason though.  I had surgery on April 18, then there was my Brother's bday on the 16th and my bday on the 20 and my cousin, Nicole had her birthday on the 14.  I'm very late on making some birthday cards (sorry Robin) and some just may not make it this year.  I tried very hard to get prepared before the surgery and try and have some of these made but I spent most of my time working on my mother's day gifts this year and if you've seen my previous post you will understand what an undertaking that was.  Alas, I digress.  I love my hubby very much and even tho this wasn't a milestone anniversary, I treat them all like they are.  I try to tell him daily and multiple time that I love him and I also regularly tell him just how much I love him and how grateful I am for having him by my side to walk thru this journey of life together with.  He was right there by my side the entire time I was in and out of the O.R. and the whole time he had me home on the mend.  He's the best husband in the world to me.....  I know at times I am not so easy to love, I can be selfish and winy and I like to get my way all most as much as he does. lol.  I can't think of a better match for me that God could have chose other than Brian.  I guess that just goes to show that God does know what he's doing and much more so than we do.  I never would have guessed he and I would make a good pair because we are both type A people and they usually but heads but not Brian and I.  He knows when it's time to give in to me and I give in to him all the rest of the time.  I gotta say the man is spoiled but you know, Honestly, I feel like I am too.  So here's to another year of smiles and tears.  I love you, Babe to the moon and beyond. I look forward to a life time together with you.  You really do make life worth living esp. with me being disabled.  You push me to keep going and not just lie down and give up and I need that...Thank You.  You really do make me a better person.  I love you.

I hope that didn't turn anyone off today, but Brian only reads my blog once a year and I have to make it good when he does. lol.  I hope you all have a wonderful day today and I will see you back tomorrow with a thank you card.

Happy Mother's Day, Mom

I made this trio for my Mother this year on Mother's day.  Sorry, I'm just a tad bit late posting it.  It's alot like the set I made for my MIL in my last post so I wont go into so much detail with this one.  The paper on the card is Webster's Pages, the die cut dollie is from Cheery Lynn Designs and the die cut sentiment is from the cricut (same cart. as last post).  I used some Wild Orchid Crafts flowers mixed with the ones from the bridal dept. at Micheals.  I used a Recollections pearl bling and some mixed trims to finish it off.

For this bag I mainly used die cuts from the Cricut and also some Wild Orchid Crafts flowers.

Here are some shots of the frame I made.  The paper was from ek success, I didn't even know they made paper and marketed it themselves.  Just like the other frame, the spray is from Micheals the bling is from Recollections and  so are the crocheted flowers.  The big white flower is one I made out of some lacey trim. the other flowers are WOC and the saying inside is from an online download.  So that's it, I hope you enjoyed it and I'm so sorry about it taking so long to post.  Have a great day!
